With our heads in a cloud. An artificial cloud that smells like burning sulphur.
`The major source of cloud-condensation nuclei (CCN) over the oceans appears to he dimethylsulphide, which is produced by planktonic algae in sea water and oxidizes in the atmosphere to form a sulphate aerosol. Because the reflectance (albedo) of clouds (and thus the Earth's radiation budget) is sensitive to CCN density, biological regulation of the climate is possible through the effects of temperature and sunlight on phytoplankton population and dimethylsulphide production. To counteract the warming due to doubling of atmospheric CO2, an approximate doubling of CCN would be needed.' James Lovelock
We often watch clouds, watch them as they form, as they separate from the others, as they simultaneously de-construct into new forms. At the bottom of this cloud there's a leek, the cloud is escaping drawn by another outside of the frame.
Two short videos of our improvisations.
Experimenting with...
- surfaces (both human and non-human),
- objects,
- the notion of elevation,
- cloudy movements,
- reaction/no reaction,
During improvisations we found how similar the tasks we where undertaking to prepare for various disasters to preparing to go on holiday. The idea of holiday snaps came into play, and a rule was unspoken set that anyone at any given time may get the camera, the other two must freeze and say cheese. Below is an image taken at precisely that time.
A series of low-fi images in the early stages of the making process. By putting them together as they are below we found a certain dynamism that later informed our improvisations further. These are all shots taken by a performer as with the rule stated above.
