A Short Silent Film
This piece was a result of an in-depth investigation into space. Spaces of movement, of transition, spaces of hight and elevation, elevators, stairways, spaces that have died, that people don't notice. We where interested in how spaces, particularly transitional spaces reflect narrative structures. What became was a walk through installation; a film transcribed on the underside of a staircase, whose narrative guides the viewer through the corridor and into a lift. Marc Augé and his writings on the non-places of super-modernity where particularly relevant here. The places we inhabit as we drive along the motorway, as we shop in the supermarket or as we wait for a flight elsewhere.
